MULTI- COVERAGE

This study consists of a combination of single coverage studies. It allows to perform three types of calculations:

- Radio coverage provided by a network of stations.

- Statistics of area and population covered.

- Calculation of interferences (carrier/interference ratio C/I).

- Calculation of capacity (only LTE services).

- Display drive-test measurements.

To create a multitransmitter coverage study, select the kind of study from the ico "New study" or from the link in the actions tree and specify the service of technology you want to plan.

The necessary parameters to carry out a this type of study are the following:

- Study: It contains the name for identifying the multi-coverage study and the Service or technology selected for the study. Xirio Online, depending on the selection of this parameter, will propose a series of radio parameters, by default, suitable for the calculation to be performed. This values can be modify at any time.

- Network coverages: These are the coverage studies involved in the Multi-coverage study calculation. For adding coverage studies to a Multi-coverage there are a number of icons:

The first icon, , has the functionality to create a new coverage, in the same way as configuring a simple coverage, from the toolbar, through "create new study", with the difference that it won't be one more in the simple coverages list but it will appear only as part of that Multi-coverage and it must have the same service as the multiple to which it belongs.

The second icon, , is used to add existing coverages. By accessing this icon, a table like the one shown below will appear:

 

The table will contain a list of all existing coverage studies with the same service that the multiple. If some of these coverages are part of other multi-coverage study, the box of the column " duplicate" will be marked and in that case the original coverage won't be included but a copy of this will be added.

The third of the icons,, has the functionality to extract simple coverages that belong to the multi-coverage study, and for that you must first select them by marking the corresponding box and next access the icon. Those that are extracted will become part of the independent single coverages.

- Parameters of signal calculation. It includes the following parameters:

   - Magnitude: The result can be obtained either in terms of field or power.

   - Units: You can choose the units in which you want to get the result. .

   - Server Type: Select the methodology for determining the desired transmitter.

- Calculation area: Geographical area in which you want to perform calculations and on which the results will be obtained. The following link provides more information about the calculation area of a multi coverage.

- Signal ranges: Range of colors that identify the signal level in the visualization of results. The following link provides more information about the signal ranges.

- Interference parameters: Allows you to set specific parameters for calculation of interference.

 

   - Interference calculation network coverage. It allows to calculate the interference using the same method of calculation used in the individual coverage studies (called primary method) or use an specific method for interference calculation called secondary method.

The interfering signal from each transmitter is always calculated with the main method. If the option to use a secondary method specific for interferences, Xirio will estimate the interference from the transmitter as the maximum value obtained with both methods.

   - Interfering coverages from other networks: The interfering coverages from other networks are those that do not provide service because they do not belong to the network under study, but they can cause interference on it. The estimate of this interference is calculated using the method of calculation used in the individual coverage studies.

   - SFN parameters: Only enlable for SFN networks in digital broadcast services. They are described in the following link.

- Rejection factors: The rejection factor specifies how an interfering signal affects in terms of radio service, frequency separation, etc,. The following link provides more information related to the rejection factors.

- Ranges of interfering results: Range of colors that identify the C/I ratio the signal level generated by the interferenig coverages from other networks in the visualization of results. The following link provides more information about the signal ranges.

- LTE capacity parameters: Next there is more information about the necessary parameters to configurate this kind of calculations ans the results that are obtained.

Except for the coverage studies and area, the rest of the parameters of the Multi-coverage are pre-loaded with default values in the tool where the user can modify them.

Anytime a Multi-coverage study is opened, the caption shown the following appearance:

Once all the fields are filled in, the user can proceed to the calculation.

During calculation, it is shown a table that displays the status, progress and actions on each of the tasks. First, the coverage studies are shown while are being calculated, and they will disappear as their calculation is complete. Finally, the multi-coverage study is calculated and when it finishes also disappears from the table. Once all calculations are completed the result can seen, opening the folder "result", just as is being done for the rest of the studies. The user can consult the results of each of the individual coverage studies as well.

ACTIONS OF MULTI-COVERAGE STUDY.

You can access the following options from the actions panel of the multi-coverage study:

- Modify study. From this option, you access the multi coverage configuration window.

- Center viewer on study. Locates the selected multi coverage on the Xirio Online viewer.

- Adjust area automatically. This option allows to define the computation area of the single coverage studies and the multi coverage study from a signal or interference threshold, or a distance set by the user. Consult the following link to read more about this functionality.

- Common modifications. The changes made in one of the coverage studies included in the multicoverage study can be applied to all or a selection of single coverages. In the following link the methodology to perform the common modifications is explained.

- Free low-resolution calculation . This option performs a free calculation of the selected study. This type of calculation has some limitations. The following link provides more information about the free calculations on Xirio Online.

- High-resolution calculation . This option performs a high-resolution calculation of the selected study. A window appears detailing the calculation cost and the cartography before starting. The following link provides more information about payment calculations on Xirio Online.

- Coverage statistics calculation . It is a detailed report with information about the covered population and area percentages. The following link provides more information about this type of calculations on Xirio Online.

- Calculate interferences . From this option you can perform the calculation of interference at high resolution on the selected study. A window detailing the cost of calculating and cartography before you start. Once the interference is calculated, it is possible to calculate interference at a point. This option produces a table that shows the following values: field received, interfering field, interfering power generated by each transmitter.

- Calculation of capacity (Only LTE services). From this option you can perform the calculation o capacity on the selected study. A window detailing the cost of calculating and cartography before you start. In order to have this option available it is necessary to have previously performed an interference calculation. Next there is more information about the necessary parameters to configurate this kind of calculations ans the results that are obtained.

- Calculation and visualization of route . It allows the user to view drive-test measurements recorded in a text file . It also allows the calculation of signal level and interference provided by each transmitter of the multi coverage on each coordinate. The following link describes the file format and steps for visualizing the route.

- Delete study. Deletes the selected study, with all the radio elements, from the user's account.

- Close study. Closes the selected study and removes its result from the viewer.

MULTI-COVERAGE RESULT

The calculation of multi-coverage study provides three types of results: Signal, Overlapping y Best Server

The following figure is a screenshot of the query of the overlapping result in a point:

The action "Reading value at a point" on a result of such overlapping reports the number of transmitters that provide coverage above the threshold of reception at that point. In the example, "Overlapping = 3 Servers" means that at that point, whose coordinates are also reported, the number of transmitter that cover is 3. In turn, the information panel displays the color code associated with the number of servers.

The appearance of the display anytime the action of reading a point for a Best Server result is performed is shown below:

In this case the query at a specific point returns the transmitter name of the best server in those coordinates. The information panel shows the color assigned to each of the transmitters involved in multi-coverage.

INTERFERENCE RESULT

The interference calculation in the multi-coverage study generates the value of the carrier to signal ratio C/I.

The results of coverage and interference are stored separately in the Results Manager.

RESULTS OF CALCULATION AND VISUALIZATION OF ROUTE

Th calculation and visualization of route provides the following results:

- Measurement visual layer. It generates a WMS layer with the measure points and the signal value asociated to each point. After generating the layer you can display only the measured points or the measured points with the measured value. For the graphic representation, Xirio-online will use tne signal ranges defined in the multi-coverage study.

- Report of signal values in the measurement points. This option generates a text file which includes, for each coordinate, the input data of the measurements file, the signal level generated by each transmitter included in the multi-coverage study, the best server and the overlap. To obtain this report it is necessary to have previously calculated the multi-coverage study.

- Report of interference values in the measurement points. This option generates a text file which includes, for each coordinate, the input data of the measurements file, the signal level generated by each transmitter included in the multi-coverage study, the best server, the overlap and th C/I ratio. To obtain this report it is necessary to have previously calculated the multi-coverage study and the interference.
